Chris belatedly started packing on Thursday night (he left Friday morning). He sifted through 5 bags of gear, only taking 2. What was left behind included boots that were issued the wrong size (he was informed they were "out" of his size, and he was asked to pick a different size), a canteen with coffee still inside, and other 'non-critical' items he deemed unimportant to his job.
Thursday we got a call from the school saying Brooklyn had taken a spill from the monkey bars. Sure enough, she'd split her chin open. Luckily, Chris WAS still home, and we had ONE suture kit left. So, my kitchen counter became a suture table.
Chris's armor weighed 35 lbs., and prior to packing it, he let all the kids try it on.

Chris marked all the kids on the wall in our storage room so we can keep track of how much they grow while he's gone.
He left Friday morning. It was a farewell not worth documenting, because it's something I really don't want to think about or remember. Luckily for us, Bailey had a tournament in Birmingham, so we made it a party to keep our minds off of Chris being gone.
The tournament was called the Liberty Cup, and we were genuinely surprised to find a small replica of the Statue of Liberty leading into this particular area of Birmingham. At night her torch had a real flame.
We're back to our routine of school, study and soccer...school, study and soccer. We only have approx. 174 days left - but who's counting?

Wow! We'll keep you guys in our prayers. Looks like you've got things under control.
They do realize that you can't exactly "pick" a new shoe size, right?
Thanks for thinking of us Ali, and Steph, yeah, that was the funniest part. Chris said the guy had to check him off as having a pair of boots, so it was "pick your size...any size..."
I just love you blog posts. Your kids are adorable and you paint a great picture of your lives. It's fun keeping up with family this way. I will definitely keep Chris and the rest of you in my thoughts as you all embark on the next 174 days.
Bailey looks WAY too grown up in the made up picture. Your kids are adorable and Chris (and you and the kids of course) are in our prayers!
You can do it! Time will go by faster than you can imagine. When Jason was gone to Iraq the first time, I thought that year would seem like an eternity! It was such a blessing to have internet and webcams! That really helped speed up the return home! You guys are in our prayers!
Ah the joys of army life! I hope you tucked away all the extra gear so you won't have to look at it while he is gone! Looks like you are holding down the fort well. We are thinking of you. Tell the kids hi from us.
